Chinese Five-Spice Chicken with Soy Garlic Noodles & Broccoli

This is my Chinese five spice chicken with glossy skin, juicy meat and so much umami. The juicy chicken is coated in a delicious sauce that is aromatic thanks to the use of Chinese five-spice! It smells amazing and tastes even better. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, especially if you've got an air fryer.

But what exactly is this five spice powder, I hear you ask? It's a unique blend of warming spices native to China, typically consisting of star anise, cloves, cinnamon, Sichuan peppercorns, and fennel seeds. The overall effect is a complex and intriguing mix of sweet, savoury, and slightly floral notes.

Good

Overall I'd rate the dish as good. I liked the broccoli how it was. Portion a bit small for husband but was ok for me.

Tasty but Small

I enjoyed this meal, and disagree with others that mention the broccoli. I prefer my veggies a little more ‘wet’’ than crunchy so they were perfect, although the portion was very small. I ended up adding a load of frozen mixed veg with the meal and still felt a bit hungry afterwards. There wasn’t any sauce so the meal was a bit dry but I have some ‘Crazy ****’ hot sauce that I decided to dip the chicken in because although the flavours are great, it was a bit dry - and it was either hot sauce or ketchup, and ketchup would have ruined it.

Taste is fine, but ...

Overall, the taste of the dish is great. However, the veggie smelt a bit stale. I like the chicken and noodles

An ok dish but could be better

The flavour of the noodles was great - authentic, fresh and light. The chicken thighs were a bit of a let down. I would prefer more noodles and better quality meat (breast, rather than skin-on rubbery thighs) - a big stir fry style dish would be excellent!

Delicious!

The chicken was unbelievable. So juicy and tasty, sweet, salty, aromatic. I did notice however the broccoli was overcooked but was wondering if that was on purpose so it mixes well with the noodles.
