Sue and Kat's dishes...

We are two best friends from Malaysia and we created Makan Malaysia. Makan means eat in Malay and that’s our goal, we want to share Malaysian culuture through food and put Malaysian cuisine on the map. Our first step was to make and sell The Sambal, a spicy chilli paste that is prominent throughout Malaysian cooking. Since then, we have launched our food delivery services, cater at events and serve street food at festivals!

Makan Malaysia have some surprisingly traditional Malay dishes on their menu and they all taste amazing. Haslina A.

My speciality is Malaysian Food

What is your favourite dish to eat and why?

Sue: I love char kuey teow! For me its the dish that really reminds me of home and my go-to meal when I'm feeling homesick. The gummy noodles and elusive ""wok hei"" is a combination that makes my belly smile.

Kat: I love roti canai and dipping that into some kari ayam. This dish is so nostalgic - I ate it every day after school! The crispy flaky bread is a perfect vessel to mop up delicious gravy."

What is your favourite dish to cook and why?

Laksa! This dish is comforting in so many ways: slurping noodles from a rich coconut broth, it's nostalgic and full of flavour. You can also customise it with whatever toppings as you want, which makes it really fun to cook too!

What is your proudest cooking memory?

Our proudest cooking memory was our first ever supper club. We invited 20 guests into our home and we cooked a feast for them. It was an incredible feeling to have strangers pay, eat and enjoy our food! It is a feeling that we hold on to and what encouraged us to begin our Makan journey.
