Jai's dishes...

I ran a restaurant in Belsize Park for many years, and have a real love and respect of great ingredients that I now bring to everything I do. I started Jai’s Ice Cream after a year spent developing recipes and learning everything possible about the art and science of making artisan ice cream. This included developing recipes that were made using lactose free dairy - this is something no other ice cream makers are doing yet in this country!

What is your favourite dish to eat and why?

Food with spice! Curries, Mexican salads and dips, spicy pasta sauces that are full of roasted veggies, I could go on... And of course, ice cream! The ice cream has to be dense, creamy and velvety smooth, with a really natural flavour, so I really feel like I’m eating something special.

What is your favourite dish to cook and why?

I love cooking for a crowd, it’s my favourite way to spend time with friends and family. The best kinds of meals for me are hearty, colourful and can be enjoyed with a glass of red wine around a big table. Heaven!

What is your proudest cooking memory?

Receiving two Great Taste awards in 2019, and four more in 2020, was a very proud moment as my ice creams were judged alongside lactose full artisan ice creams. Great Taste judges are looking for “simply delicious food that delivers fantastic flavour!”. They also care deeply about the quality of the ingredients used.
